Fire Service

Cohoctah Township is a member of the Howell Area Fire Authority.  Burn permits are not required.  The Cohoctah Fire substation is located at Oak Grove Road and Chase Lake Road. For more information, please visit the Howell Area Fire Authority web site at

Hall Reservation

A maintenance fee of $100.00 is charged to non-residents. For residents using the hall for commercial purposes, the fee is $25.00.  There is no maintenance fee for non-commercial use by residents, but there is a $25.00 refundable deposit required prior to use, which will be returned if the hall is left according to use agreement requirements. To schedule a reservation, please call the township office at 517-546-0655 during regular business hours.

Property transfer affidavits and principal residence exemptions

Whenever you purchase or transfer real property, a property transfer affidavit must be filed with the township clerk within 45 days of the transfer.  Failure to do so will result in a penalty of up to $200.00.  A principal residence exemption form must be filed if the house is your principal residence.  Failure to do so could result in your having to pay more property taxes than required by law. Household batteries

Household batteries may be recycled at the township hall during business hours.
